I remember the soldier, lyin'

Daddy said he weren't much older than
Cory'd be were he alive today

War, as we fixed the back porch
He said he were a deserter, that he
couldn't go no further
He said he ran from his post when he
could feel the Ghosts of the
men he'd done in

couldn't get it right,
And I can still smell the firefight
like it's tonight."
